    Though not specifically a Burleson article, there is a connection in the ensuing years after the road was established. Some Americans settled along the Ayish Bayou, which runs north-south through San Augustine County as part of the Trace. Others settled there in the ensuing years, including Joseph Rogers Burleson, the son of James Burleson and Elizabeth Shipman.
